I DECIDED TO SEE what different content management systems (CMSes) were like. What a fool I was.
Checking out the WordPress site, I got referred to several web host sites and plumped for one that gave me the madmikemagee.net URL.
You can experiment with all sorts of CMSes if you’ve a 100 years or so to waste – definitely quite a few of them are far from simple, while others are so simple they’re far from ideal.
Also, transplanting stuff from this freebie bog to a bog hosted on a site is not necessarily the easiest thing to do.
Perhaps it’s time that the web wizzes, rather than behave as if they’re members of Masonic Lodge 434, with secret knowledge to boot, just created a back engine to demand.
The web wizzes have everything to gain, and nothing to lose from such a strategy. They are the modern equivalent of printers, who in the ole days claimed no-one understood their craft.
Basically, that’s because no one wants to take the time to understand their craft. Bricklaying and plumbing is easier, all in all. Raw HTML is even easier. ♥
Almost every web designer I’ve talked to has the same complaint, and they’re right. CMSes suck.
They come to me and say “Johnny, you’re a web programmer. If you wrote a CMS that didn’t suck, you could make a lot of money and everyone would be grateful”.
The idea sounds simple enough, but it would be damn near impossible to create a system that could meet everyone’s needs and also remain easy to use. While the developers of CMSes continue to struggle to make their software universally useful, the folks who developed very specialized services (Blogger, Flickr, etc.) are sipping margaritas on some tropical beach.
So unless you have some novel idea that will finally bring forth the golden age of the CMS, I’ll continue to just smile and nod and ignore anyone who begs me to write one.
pls make something akinn to fudzilla. should be easy enough once you get over config curve. get lamp installed on ubuntu, get vhosts apache config working and then install your varios apps in resp folder, you may want to htaccess protect but that is the extent of the setup to start trying out the prime contenders. you may want to mirror pages in static html for se/spidering but that will be a process. google ads and analytics can be good to get started. openx is a decent ad sys too, you may want several sites to play around with alt strategies- running yahoo ads on mirror or under a different name. you must adapt and get a system up and rev streamage that will allow you to expand solar capacity after all…now thatyou have the word out i am sure you will get some concrete suggestions.
